Ben 118a.jpg“The Amazon was amazing in and of itself and the fishing was fun, but to be able to see that part of the world and interact with the people was the best part.  My brother-in-law and I provided funding [for Franceline] to get her started [with a small food vending service].  It wasn’t any kind of financial setback for us, and it amazes me that a little bit of money can make such a dramatic impact on their lives.”

Hello,

This past season has been phenominal.  I want to thank all those who have been part of the growth of Big Amazon Fish.  It takes a special guest to travel with us because it’s not only the size of their fish that matters, but the size of their heart…  Our guests enjoy the exotics of the Amazon and are true adventure givers.  Our guests get the powerful opportunity to experience the rainforest jungle, catch big fish, and provide humanitarian service and resources to developing communities.  We are “fishin’ with a mission.”  What a powerful way to experience the Amazon!

Here are some of the highlights of this past year:

1. Big Amazon Fish received official endorsement by Sportsmen’s News as one of their ”Platinum Approved Outfitters.”  Big Amazon Fish is the only Amazon outfitter with this status.

2. Big Amazon Fish guests have caught multiple peacock bass including many “teeners” and fish in the 20+ category.  The BigPeacockBass.com award goes to Tod Becker from Kingman, AZ with the biggest “jaw dropper.”

3. Big Amazon Fish anglers caught over 30 different species of fish this year including giant saber-toothed payara, red-tailed catfish, zebra catfish, black piranha, jacunda, aruawna, piraiba, pirarucu, and five different species of peacock bass.

4. Big Amazon Fish discovered their newest secret spots on the Amazon including a river system they call the Rio Segredo (the Secret River).  Big Amazon Fish has found two other “secret” areas that they are considering for purchase.

5. Big Amazon Fish continues a strong relationship with boat owners Francisco and Julinho so that our guests continue to receive the best service and accommodations.

6. Big Amazon Fish was one of the top 25 companies in the nation in a national business plan competition in New York City.  Big Amazon Fish co-owner, Ben Nolte finishes his MBA from the University of Utah this month.

7. Big Amazon Fish has spotted over a hundred species of birds and animals in the rainforest jungle including the 6 ft. flying to-yu-yu, intelligent pink dolphin, three-towed sloth, monkeys, and much more.

8. Big Amazon Fish continues to make the culture and people part of our experience.  There is so much we can learn from eachother and share with one another.  Big Amazon Fish continues their informal adventure giving tradition in providing resources to jungle villages.

9. Big Amazon Fish orchestrated their first “fishin’ with a mission” microloan.  Guests Bruce Hall and Tod Becker provided Franceline, a native villager, the opportunity to start a small franchise.  Thanks Bruce and Tod.  You are “fishin’ with a mission.”

If there was every a year to come to the Amazon, this coming year will be the one to come…  You will be part of the first year of “fishin’ with a mission” in full bloom.  Imagine the social impact you will have on our global society and the education you will receive.  It’s not only the size of your fish, but the size of your heart…  We want you to come “fishin’ with a mission.”  World records are abound.

Sincerely,

Ben Nolte

Managing Director

Sportsman’s’ News has designated Big Amazon Fish as a Platinum Approved Outfitter.  They are the only guide service in the Amazon that has achieved this elite status and they strive to keep improving their service.

It’s not only the size of your fish, but the size of your heart…  I didn’t fully grasp the meaning of this concept “fishin’ with a mission” until I found myself in the Amazon rainforest holding a prehistoric 130 lb pirarucu.  The next day I’m in the middle of an idyllic jungle lagoon, landing a monstrous 19 lb trophy peacock bass.  On another day, I’m in a remote jungle village surrounded by the natives, giving small gifts in exchange for heartwarming smiles and gratitude.

We were fishin’ with a mission, and I for one will be back for more.  Thanks Ben and Naldo.  [To read Steve’s front page article in April’s edition of the Sportsmen’s News, please go to your nearest Sportsmen’s Warehouse to pick one up or go to www.sportsmensnews.com.]

The trip was outstanding!  The fishing, food, accommodations, and people were great. To experience the Amazon and its culture is worth the trip in itself. I would go back in a heartbeat.  Barry Hecker, Retired NBA Coach 1_fish_peacock_barry.jpg

Dear Ben and Naldo,

The experience of going to Brazil and fishing with “Big Amazon Fish” is a once in a lifetime experience.  The Jungle was amazing and the quality of life was a new adventure that has left lasting impressions and memories. To see how the families within the villages exist was a true eye opener, as we are so locked up in our daily routines and take such simple things for granite. The paddling of a “dug out canoe” was a much different challenge, then getting into you own car and driving to the store. We truly are spoiled people.
 Nolte 318.jpgNolte 434.jpg
To see the sincere smiles of the villagers and for them to be so impressed with seeing themselves in a digital camera for the first time was awesome.  To be the guests of the village and share their stories and meet new friends was at times over whelming. Their quality of life and happiness is something that can only be experienced by the visit that was afforded by “Big Amazon Fish”.
 Nolte 415.jpgNolte 178.jpg
Now fishing was a whole different story, where can you go and catch a 59 Kilo (130lb) Pirarucu and not say you haven’t caught a “BIG AMAZON FISH”, or a 9 Kilo (20lb.) Tambaqui another “BIG AMAZON FISH”!!   I was truly impressed with the Boat Boys, and their expertise to take you to the location to catch the big fish was amazing. They also had no problems to shimmy up a tree and retrieve a lure that was the result of an over zealous cast, or enter the water to untangle a large fish that has wrapped around a tree or had swam under a log.
 Steve 049.jpg
Being able to come back to the Boat in the evening and share the photographs and video was a true adventure, along with the stories about the “big ones that got away”. It was not a “Fish Story” when people caught 104 fish per day, that is an amazing number but we were there to see it with our own
eyes. The Peacock Bass had beautiful color and many “Big Amazon Fish” were landed. Not to forget the Piranha’s or the alligators that were caught and photographs to tell of the amazing stories.
 Nolte 462.jpg
Your staff and accommodations were superior along with the fine food and hospitality. There were no requests that were not honored and it was a truly enjoyable experience. Thank you and you staff for the opportunity of a life time, along with the great memories and fish stories that people have to see photos to believe.
